Today I met an artist acquaintance of mine at a craft fair. I've known her for several years now, and we always look forward to seeing each other and catching up. We were talking about writing and work and I was like "well my goal is to get a library job and have some type of stability that can keep me writing."

So she told me a story about her friend who has a job with jobs she can complete quickly, like before her salaried hours are over. In that extra time, this friend has apparently written (and eventually self-published) a trilogy of steamy romance novels! The artist said she'd read them and enjoyed them, even if she hadn't expected that friend to write anything quite of that nature.

And like, honestly? Goals. Also, props to my artist for giving me possibly the most motivational "life goals" conversation of any adult in my life.

Also, it's so wild that I'm old enough now that chill adultier adults are comfortable talking about erotica with me. Makes me happy.

So my brother is 3 years younger than me, and currently in a songwriting class. He shared the two main songs he'd written with the fam and I was struck by how, like, emotionally vulnerable they were. Like one was clearly very personal and though it had a joking slant there was a lot of, like, real and somewhat heavy stuff there. And that's hecking great, I'm really impressed. It also made me think about how my emotionally constipated ass has always struggled with expressing my own emotions except removed by fiction and plausible deniability, and even then I worry about seeming too ~exposed~. I have a lot of hangups and double standards about expressing emotions.

And it's something I'm working on and have been improving definitely, but it's just interesting to see my younger sibling being so much more comfortable with it, and it's been on my mind.
