For all my love of fandom and transformative works, and for all that I've been writing fic in my head as long as I can remember, its occurred to me recently that when I was writing original stuff as a kid I was always focused on writing A Novel TM, without anything attached, and I always lost motivation on those really quick because novels are long and I didn't make the space for me to develop my characters outside of The Novel TM.

Which makes it really exciting that I've learned how to scribble bits and write side stories and short stories and rps with my own characters, so now I can actually develop them without worrying about Creating A Novel TM which is a low priority rn

Anyway I was looking back at my splat writing from the past year and that's one thing I'm really excited about, process-wise.

So I have a character and he's a druid named Simon, and in order to get a better handle on what his abilities are I thought I'd look up D&D druid stats and just... start there. I'm not intending to play him any time but like... I need to sort this stuff out in my brain.

So I read the dryad description and it's like:

"The elegant dryads resemble the most dazzling, female elves. Their golden skin is the color of sunlight, with the texture of smooth bark. Their shapely forms are draped in flowing dresses, made of woven leaves or flower petals, as is their cascading hair. Their warm laughter and captivating song echoes through the woodland realms, rich and enticing, yet rare and elusive."

And then I look back at my grumpy naive gnarled private investigator tree man and snicker. That's just not quiiiiite right.

and like I wasn't going there to look up dryad descriptions and I did find stats but I'm still amused as all heck

I don't really have much to say other than I hope 2019 treats us all well, and the first songs I played after midnight were another one bites the dust and end of the line.
